Cookashi ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

• Account information: email address and password (stored as a secure hash) when you register.
• Recipe and meal data: recipes, meal logs, grocery lists, and household information you create in the app.
• Camera: used solely to let you photograph food or scan barcodes within the app. Photos are not stored on our servers unless you explicitly save a recipe image.
• Imported content: URLs you share from YouTube or other sources to import recipes. We do not store the original video.
• Usage data: standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps) for security and debugging purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the Cookashi service.
• To generate AI-powered recipe suggestions and nutritional information.
• To manage your household and shared grocery lists.
• To send transactional emails (e.g. password reset) — no marketing emails without your consent.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

• USDA FoodData Central: food name queries for nutritional lookup (no personal data sent).
• Anthropic: anonymised recipe text for AI processing. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Railway: our cloud hosting provider. Data is stored on Railway's infrastructure.

4. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.

5. Security

We use HTTPS for all data in transit and store passwords using industry-standard hashing. We do not store payment information.

6. Children's Privacy

Cookashi is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing us.
